The Story of Caballo Press of Ann Arbor After four years of research, in 2006, Caballo Press of Ann Arbor's Publisher and CEO, Dr. Rudolph Valier Alvarado submitted his award winning biography, The Untold Story of Joe Hernandez: The Voice of Santa Anita, to several major publishers. He was told that while the writing was excellent, no one would be interested in Joe's life story. Undeterred, and with a firm belief in his story, Alvarado turned to a couple of associates from Ann Arbor; they agreed to assist him in publishing his biograpy on Joe Hernandez. In 2007, Caballo Press of Ann Arbor was established for the sole purpose of publishing his book on Joe Hernandez. The Untold Story of Joe Hernandez: The Voice of Santa Anita went on to win Thoroughbred horse racing's most covented prize for writers, The Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award, an award that recognizes Thoroughbred horse racing's Book of the Year. The award is sponsored by Thoroughbred Times and Castleton Lyons. In additon to this, Alvarado's biography was named a finalist for six national book awards and the screenplay rights were sold to Thoroughbred essayist Marion E. Altieri, who is currently writing the screenplay based on the book. Following the success of Hernandez' biography, it was decided that Caballo Press of Ann Arbor should live on! In 2009, Dr. Alvarado was named the Publisher and CEO of the company. ______________________________________ It is the Mission of Caballo Press of Ann Arbor to publish compelling works related to horses. We do not place an importance on the number of books we publish a year. Instead, we focus on publishing books that our readers want to read. Furthermore, a percentage of every book we publish goes to support a non-profit organization related to horses. The only way that we found to assure that a percentage of every book we sell goes to these non-profits was to establish our own online store. For this reason, you will seldom find our books in bookstores, and if you find them there, rest assured that they bought those books from us and that a percentage of the sale price, wholesale, or retail, will go to a non-profit organization related to horses. In addition, it is the Mission of Caballo Press of Ann Arbor to explore innovative ways to promote the books we publish. For example, our patrons can host a book sigining event at their homes and invite their friends. This will ensure that everyone there is actually interested in the subject of the book and will ensure a personal experience with the author. Finally, it is the Mission of Caballo Press of Ann Arbor to form friendships with our patrons first and sell them one heck of a horsey book second! At Caballo Press of Ann Arbor, we know that we're a relative yearling in the world of Thoroughbred horse publishing, but were eager to make good! |
